Wind Power- Features
Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into cleaner, more cost-effective forms of energy. This technology has been used as a power source for many years around the world. The earliest recorded windmill was reported in Northwestern Europe in 1 AD to power an organ. In the past ten years, wind power has been the fastest growing energy source. Currently, Iowa has 600 windmills, which provides enough power for 140,000 homes. In addition, wind power can provide for 40 percent of electricity in the United States. Sadly, our nation only produces 1 percent of its electricity by wind.
