Composting is a method of resource recovery by taking organic residuals and converting them to a useful end product. Compost materials loosen clay soil and assists in the soil retaining water. In addition, composting helps to clean contaminated soil and assists in the prevention of all forms of pollution. About one-third of the nation's landfill is filled with organic waste from the yard and kitchen, which could be used in composting and reducing the amount of land pollution.
