Hydroelectric Power- What You Can Do
Hydroelectric plants can significantly impact the surrounding environment. Currently, only 2,400 of the nation's 80,000 dams are used for hydropower; therefore, a movement has been initiated to retrofit existing dams to produce electricity. This movement requires individuals to contact their congressmen to express their opinion regarding the retrofitting of existing dams. In addition, if property contains water resource such as a creek that has a constant flow, people can place a waterwheel in it, thus producing their own hydroelectric power. New innovations allow people to place a waterwheel in their water resource without a waterfall present.
