Air Pollution - Environmental Impact
Acid rain is caused by several different air pollutants such as carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide. It causes respiratory illnesses particularly in children and the elderly. It also damages trees, and crops. Furthermore, it makes soil and bodies of water acidic. The air pollutants that lead to acid rain come from fuel that is burned at high temperatures, such as combustion in motor vehicles, electric utilities, and other sources that burn fuel. In addition, air pollutants contribute to acid rain, climate change, and smog. Smog contributes to several health conditions as well as damages vegetation and reduces crop yields.
